Spiritual Health

If you have been reading up on the health page, you will note that there is information to help build the quality of your relationships, reminders to make sure you do self-care, and guidelines for watching what you take into both your body and mind. I believe part of good health also includes spiritual care.

Spiritual care will take many different forms for many different people. It’s hard to put into words the importance of believing in something larger than yourself, – that we are all one great being of humanity, connected for better or worse. I also believe in the importance of believing there is a God who both created us and cares for us. I believe there is great power in this unconditional love, and the main way that this love is shown is through Jesus Christ.

If you are new to Christianity or would like to learn more about Jesus Christ, I would recommend the Come Unto Christ link. If you’ve read my bio on the home page you know that I am a practicing member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. You can learn about our basic beliefs on churchofjesuschrist.org

Coming unto Christ means that we better understand who he is, and how he loves us. When we develop a partnership with Christ we are better able to withstand the disasters and handle the emergencies in our life.

I recently came across an article I would like to share. It took the principles of building a relationship and likened it to building a relationship with Christ. I will add a little to each point.

10 Ways to Strengthen Relationships

As I was pondering ways to come closer to Heavenly Father and the Savior, I researched 10 basic relationship tips that are often given by professionals and combined them with prophetic counsel to give them a spiritual focus.

Here are the 10 tips:

  1. Communicate honestly, out loud, and with real intent through prayer. – Prayer is our way to talk to God and our actions express how we feel about Him.
  2. Be a good listener. – Take time to think about how divinity touches your life and how the Holy Spirit communicates with you.
  3. Show Them appreciation. – You are Christ’s hands here on earth; how can we show gratitude and help others?
  4. Make sacrifices for Them. – God doesn’t want your free time he wants your prime time. Always remember the good He can do.
  5. Learn about Them. – Apply how you best learn to this task of bettering knowing Christ: read, take a class, watch a movie, listen to a podcast, etc…
  6. Spend quality time with Them. – While we cannot physically be in the presence of Jesus we can think of Him and take time to have a conversation together in prayer. Finding a quiet spot helps in doing this.
  7. Serve together. – Jesus was always helping others and encourages us to do the same. Big or small, all service is a worthy cause.
  8. Show Them trust and commitment. – do you do what you say you are going to do? Have you made religious commitments? Do you keep them?
  9. Admit when you’re wrong. – No one is perfect. Mistakes are expected. However we are supposed to apologize when wrong, and repent including turning more towards God.
  10. Learn how They show you love. – How do you feel the love of God and Jesus Christ? Often this can be through other people. Make sure to cultivate these relationships too.
